Full visibility everywhere combined with high precision using Sensolus trackers and Quuppa

High precision localization has traditionally been a solution that is separate from low-power asset tracking solutions. High precision localization is focused on specific zones only and requires a dedicated infrastructure, which comes at a significant investment required. Low-power asset tracking solutions have the advantage of providing location visibility on any location possible location and are only limited by the reach of the communication technology and network roaming agreements.

These two historically different localization concepts can now be combined into the Sensolus platform, using a single asset tracker. This provides the unique benefits of both solutions:

1. Visibility everywhere during entire logistical process (Using GPS, Geobeacons, Wi-Fi).
2. High accuracy localization at specific indoor locations (Using Quuppa).

What is Quuppa?

Quuppa is a vendor of a real-time, high accuracy positioning infrastructure. In a typical Quuppa solution, dedicated Quuppa-compatible tags are installed on assets. Such tags are similar to regular BLE tags, with some extra features (see further). However, instead of installing just a few BLE scanning anchors, Quuppa installations have a grid of carefully positioned 'locators' (= scanning devices) that are capable of measuring the angle of arrival of the signals emitted by tags. The position of the tags can is then calculated (technical term: trilateration) by an on-premise server running the Quuppa Positioning Engine (QPE). This can often result in a 1 meter precision or even more.

Although the Quuppa solution uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) as its operating principle, devices need to meet a number of additional requirements to be accurately discoverable by the Quuppa locators. Regular BLE tags would in principle also be detectable by the Quuppa locators but they will have less accuracy compared to truly Quuppa compatible tags. On the Quuppa website, the list of tested and verified tags is published.

A Quuppa solution requires specific infrastructure to be installed, which is a significant investment compared to other localization techniques. Classically, when the asset leaves the Quuppa-enabled area, it is no longer visible to the Quuppa infrastructure. This is an important limitation of any high precision tracking solution requiring infrastructure. However, this limitation can be overcome when combining the Sensolus and Quuppa solutions.

Quuppa-compatible Sensolus trackers

Selected battery-powered trackers offered by Sensolus are Quuppa compatible. This means they can be accurately detected by the Quuppa infrastructure, and they have been certified by Quuppa to meet the Quuppa accuracy requirements.

Future Sensolus tracker models may also have the Quuppa compatibility option. This is indicated on the tracker specification sheet.

Quuppa compatibility needs to be activated on these trackers by Sensolus or a Sensolus partner, by applying the tracker profile that will apply the remote settings.

Quuppa certified partner required

Sensolus does not provide support on the Quuppa infrastructure and does not sell Quuppa hardware or services. Instead, the Quuppa solution is offered and serviced by a Sensolus partner that is trained / certified by Quuppa.
